SARS-CoV-2, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Betacoronavirus etc..

Rabbim ailemize, sevdiklerimize ve tüm iyi kalpli insanlara sağlık sıhhat afiyet versin... (May my Lord give health and well-being to our family, loved ones and all kind-hearted people ...)                                          Dünyayı kasıp kavuran virüs hakkında birkaç küçük bilgi..... (A few little facts about the virus that swept the world ...)                                            "Coronaviruses are enveloped, linear, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA viruses. They have helical capsids made up of nucleocapsid proteins (N proteins). The surface proteins on COVID-19 are called envelope, spike, and membrane proteins. he diseases caused by coronaviruses range from mild to severe: these viruses caused SARS and MERS outbreaks but are also responsible for almost one-third of all cases of the common cold. Coronaviruses are highly seasonal viruses; infection rates are higher in the winter."
"At the time of this writing (October 2020), coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‑19) remains a rapidly emerging illness that is placing a significant burden on health care systems worldwide. It has overwhelmed the health care capacity of some countries and crippled the economy of others."
"COVID-19 has a higher mortality rate than the flu (seasonal influenza). It is thought to have a lower mortality rate than its coronavirus predecessors, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). The number of total deaths does not approach those of the AIDS retroviral epidemic (1980-current) or the H1N1 Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918‑1920. But the sudden impact and economic disruption of this pandemic are unprecedented in modern times."
"COVID-19 is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The virus infects many animals, particularly bats. Cross-over to humans is believed to have occurred in late 2019 in a livestock market in Wuhan, China; it is unclear how the initial human infection occurred. Possibilities for animal vectors include bats, pangolins, and civets (a tropical cat-like animal native to Africa and Asia)."
"As of October 29, 2020, more than 44 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and more than 1.1 million people have died from it. The country with the highest number of cases is the United States, with a total of 8,834,393 recorded cases and 227,045 deaths. In many locales, overall death rates have increased significantly, beyond just the increased death rates attributed formally to COVID-19, suggesting that the virus may be responsible for many deaths in addition to the official totals."
"The asymptomatic incubation period after infection is 2‑14 days, with a mean of 5 days. This incubation period increases the risk of widespread infection because people who are asymptomatic carriers can spread disease rapidly in schools, factories, and other densely populated areas"
"Initially, symptomatic patients present with a flu-like illness. Early symptoms generally include fever (85%-100%), cough, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, and muscle aches, but new variants on this list continue to appear. Some patients may develop a lower respiratory tract infection (viral pneumonia) and present with dyspnea (shortness of breath) and hypoxia (low blood oxygen saturation). Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms are also common (eg, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain)."
" Some patients may progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), respiratory failure, septic shock (circulatory collapse), and multiorgan failure. COVID-19 has also been associated with hypercoagulability (ie, venous thromboembolic disease), encephalopathy, myocardial injury, and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C)."  (from USMLE-Rx bricks Coronavirus Disease 2019)

The main risk factors for COVID-19 are being in close contact with an infected person (spread via respiratory droplets) and touching a virally contaminated surface. Increasing age and certain comorbid conditions are associated with a higher risk for severe COVID-19 infection, for example, pneumonia, respiratory failure, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cancer, obesity, and chronic diseases of the heart, lungs, or kidneys....
